
- Chitwan, 3 Sept.
According to District Police Office, Chitwan's Superintendent of Police (SP), Deepak Thapa, landslides struck the Fishling and Ghoptevir section of the Prithvi Highway at 12:30 am. The excavators have been dispatched from Gajuri area to clear the landslide debris. Fishling is located 12 km north – east towards Kathmandu while Ghotevir is located 2 km from Mugling towards the same direction.
Landslides have also struck the Kalikhola and Mukhal among other sections along the Narayangadh – Muglin road stretch. SP Thapa said due to continuing rainfall the authorities were unable to determine the number of locations where landslides have fallen.
The responders are struggling to clear the landslides due to continuing mudslides from above the hill and the teeming downpours. The government had recently imposed a night travel ban along the Mugling – Narayangadh road stretch as the route remains prone to landslides during the road expansion work, and the monsoon downpours make the journey for travellers perilous.
- Dhangadhi, 26 Aug.
CPN (Maoist Centre) chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachand has termed the Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba's on-going India trip as successful.
In a press meet organized by the Press Centre here today, Chair Dahal who is also the former PM, said that India's cooperation to the process for upcoming federal and provincial elections was positive. He added that PM Deuba only discussed on the implementation of the past agreements and some essential current issues during his visit.
On a different note, leader Dahal shared that it was a happy movement as Rastriya Janata party is gearing to take part in the upcoming elections. He urged all to cooperate for the implementation of the constitution for political stability and economic prosperity.
Dahal also shared that his party could forge coalition with Madhes-centric and republican parties in the local polls in Province-2 adding that the alliance also could be forged with Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) as well.

- Chitwan,19 July.
Two persons were killed and two others injured in separate motorbike accidents in the district.
According to District Police Office, Chitwan, Balram Bhandari 48, of Bhimsennagar died after his bike (Na 42 Pa 281) en route to Parbatipur from Geetanagar swerved out of control and crashed at Birendra Chowk of Bharatpur Metropolitan City – 14 at 11 PM.
Balram's wife, Padma Bhandari, 45, was injured in the accident. She is receiving treatment at the Chitwan Medical College. Bhandari died at 12:15 am in course of treatment.
In another incident, Sabitri Chaudhary, 45, died after getting rammed by a motorbike (Na 42 Pa 4031) at Bachauli area of Ratnanagar municipality – 6 in eastern Chitwan last night. She died on the way to Bharatpur for treatment.
Rajendra Chaudhary was injured in the accident and is receiving treatment at Chitwan Medical College. He is reported to be out of danger.

- Kathmandu, 10 July.
Inaugurating the first municipal assembly of Kirtipur municipality on Sunday, Chairman Oli said Kirtipur bears distinct historic and cultural significances. "Development must be focused here to bring in more number of tourists," he said, assuring assistance to the people's representatives for it.
Also speaking on the occasion, lawmaker Rajan KC, municipality mayor Ramesh Maharjan and deputy mayor Saraswati Khadka said all parties' efforts were essential to develop Kirtipur as the touristy place.
Deputy mayor Khadka said that preparations were afoot to present the budget of some Rs 790 million.

- Chitwan 11 May :
Voting will take place in Kalika municipality-11 of Chitwan on May 16 (Tuesday) according to the new calendar here.
The voting date has been re-scheduled after one of the candidates of the ward lost his life to lightning strike.
According to Chitwan District Returning Office, a public notice has been issued informing voters about re-scheduled date for voting in ward number 11.
Sifal Chepang, a candidate from the CPN (Maoist Centre) for the member of ward 11, died when lightning followed by rain on May 9 struck her.

- Chitwan, 14 April.
The vehicular movement along the Narayangadh-Muglin road section resumed from 12:30 pm after the dry landslide debris was removed from the Charkilo along the road section.
The 36-kilometre road section, one of the busiest ones in the country, was disrupted since 9 am today following a dry landslide at Charkilo. It was the third landslide in three consecutive days.
According to Narayangadh-Muglin Road Project Engineer Shiva Khanal, the debris was cleared off the road and the vehicular movement was also brought back to normalcy.
The road section, where more than 9,000 vehicles pass through in a day on average, is currently undergoing expansion for which traffic is halted from 10 am to 4 pm every day.

A student attending the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) was killed after getting struck by a truck at Rupnagar of Saptari along the East-West Highway this morning.
The truck (Na 1 Ka 5200) heading east rammed Nitu Kumari Thakur, 16, of Bhardaha, Saptari, Area Police Office, Kanchanpur said.
Nitu, who sustained serious injuries in the accident, died on the way to Gajendra Narayan Singh Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital based in Rajbiraj, according to police. The police have detained the truck driver.

The 38-year-old actress, who last big screen outing was 2015 film Alone, took a break from films after getting married to TV actor Karan Singh Grover last year.
“The fiction is improving but very slowly, we are still catering to a very different kind of audience. The mindsets are changing. Yes, I am open to television but mostly I would think of reality at this point in time. I won’t get into fiction right now,” said Bipasha, who walked the ramp for designer duo Falguni and Shane Peacock at the Lakme Fashion Week.
The actress said she is also planning to return to films and would like to do a comedy project. “I will be back on the big screen soon. Now that marriage is done, the honeymoon is done, I would like to do a comedy film.” The actress walked the ramp wearing a silver encrusted shimmery gown from the collection and says it was her husband Karan, who chose the outfit for her. I was sent two outfits by the designers and Karan chose this. He said that I was looking like a queen in this gown.
“Karan generally does that. It is nice and easy for me. He helps me then make my mind fast,” she said. The designer duo’s collection was called The Rebel and was aimed at women who are daring and only desire masterpieces in their wardrobe and was ideal for those Oscar nights in Hollywood or award events in the world of Bollywood.

Inaugurating the two-day event organized by All Nepal Peasants' Federation, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli pressed for commercialization of agriculture in Nepal as well as other south Asian countries which economy is based on agriculture.
The former Prime Minister stressed on increasing productivity by employing new methods and practices in agriculture.
Similarly, Association Chairman and former Deputy Prime Minister Bamdev Gautam claimed that Nepal would be a socialist country if India would not meddle in the Nepal's domestic affair.
The event which has brought together representatives from 15 peasants' organizations from altogether five countries including Nepal will discuss about the impact of neo-liberalism to peasants.

Baitadi, 23 Jan:
A campaign has been launched to rid Haat VDC of Baitadi off child marriage practices.
The Child Network, Girls' Rank Group and Child Marriage Alleviation Committee will head the door-to-door programmes, interactions and social boycott of those involved in child marriage practices as part of the campaign, Haat Health Post In-charge, Binod Kumar Kunwar said.
Kunwar said the child marriage brings problems in women's life and deprives them of educational opportunities. He added that Haat VDC would be declared a model health VDC of the district for which the campaign has been run to end child marriage practices.
"We have prepared a strategy to put up a public notice to make public three generations of those who practice child marriages," Kunwar shared. Despite a legal ban, the child marriages are still a norm in many rural places of Nepal.

Minister for Energy Janardan Sharma urged the industrialists to take advantage by investing in the hydro power sectors as the government was encouraging the same.
In an interaction with
industrialists here today, Minister Sharma stressed on investing in the hydro sector to make the nation prosperous. Accordingly, the presence government is forwarding such programes.
On the occasion, industrialists urged the Minister to reduce the load shedding to run the industries effectively.

- Pokhara, 4 Jan :
The 3rd edition of Engineering Exhibition is taking place in Pokahra with an aim to modernize and revamp the industrial and trade sector on a hi-tech front through development of information and technology.
At a press conference held on Tuesday by the Tribhuvan University affiliate Pashchimanchal Campus : Institute of Engineering in Pokhara, Campus Chief, Narayan Gautam, shared that the exhibition will take place on January 6 and 7.
At least 40 stalls will be on exhibition with solar cars developed by students and paddy thresher machine among others, said Gautam, who shared a belief that the exhibition will help reach out to the people with knowledge that the use of technology and machines enhances productivity while at the same time minimizing cost.

- Rolpa, 3 Jan.
The seed production programme run under the Integrated Water Resource Management Project implemented by the District Agricultural Development Office, Rolpa is becoming effective.
Under the project, the seeds production programme and other agro-related programmes have been implemented in two VDCs--Kotagaun and Jedabang—for six years.
Seeds of maize, rice and wheat are being produced in some 5,000 hectares of land which is being supplied to other parts of the district, District Agricultural Development Office (DADO) Rolpa's agriculture extension officer Rabindra Poudel said. The office provides 50 per cent subsidy in the purchase of parent seeds to farmers.
The seed production programme has increased farmer's access to hybrid seeds, contributing to the increase in production and productivity as well.
These two villages where the programme is launched are known as pocket areas for agro seeds production. We hope for better results in the days ahead, Poudel said. The office is thinking on possibilities for the expansion of programme to other villages as well, he added.

- Kathmandu, 2 Jan.
Nepal lost to India 1-3 in the semi-final match under the 4th SAFF Women's Championship held at Kanchunjunga Stadium in Siliguri, India on Monday.
With the win, the host country team has entered the final match. Jitma Kamala Devi, Indumati and Sasmita Mallick of India scored one goal each. Jitma took the lead by scoring the maiden goal in the 44th minutes in the first half.
Similarly, India scored through Indumati and Sasmita in 59th minutes and 84th minutes respectively in the second half.
Although Nepali striker Sabitra Bhandari scored a goal in the 75th minutes through a penalty, it was not sufficient for Nepal to get through to the final.
It had played in all three previous editions of the regional tournaments where India, an archrival, has defeated Nepal in every edition.
Nepal had reached the semi-final by winning over Bhutan 8-0, Maldives 9-0 and Sri Lanka 1-0.

Nepal will face India on Monday in the semi-finals of the 4th SAFF Women's Championship underway in Siliguri of India.
Nepal leads Group 'A' while India is first runner-up of Group 'B'. This will be a tough match for Nepal to secure a win to compensate its loss to India in the third edition of the SAFF Women's Championship held in Pakistan two years ago.
Having won all three different matches in the group phase of the championship, Nepal has gained the total nine points. In earlier matches, Nepal defeated Bhutan 8-0, Maldives 9-0 and Sri Lanka 1-0 respectively.
Likewise, India has secured a win against Afghanistan and played a goalless draw against Bangladesh.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachada' has argued that the country could make economic stride if efficient utilization of science and technology is ensured.
Inaugurating the first national convention of the Nepal National Engineers' Organization and unity assembly here today, PM Dahal further commended the role of the technology in the construction and development of physical infrastructures.
Dahal pledged to pay a special attention to the safety and needs of the engineers deployed in various quake-hit areas in the country for reconstruction.
Similarly, Minister for Information and Communications Surendra Kumar Karki pressed for a common viewpoint among the political parties for usher country towards development and economic prosperity.
He stressed on retaining technical human resources at homeland for the efficient and optimum utilization of technology to bring about all-round development in the country.
Likewise, Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development Hitraj Pandey shared that the Constituency Area Development Programme had helped create job opportunities for at least one to three engineers in each constituency for the development of physical infrastructures.
Nepali Engineers' Association President Hariram Shrestha and senior engineer Jeevraj Pokharel among others spoke of the need for capacity building of the engineers.

Energy Minister Janardhan Sharma has urged the private sector to run big industries in the country by identifying the need for local participation in the construction of hydropower projects.
Inaugurating the 25 megawatt Upper Madi Hydropower Project at Sildujure VDC in Kaski, he claimed that the entire nation apart from some districts has been experiencing load shedding.
Likewise on the event, President of Development Committee of the Legislature-Parliament Rabindra Adhikari said the politics ahead is to advance entrepreneurship and prosperity of the country instead of rhetoric.
Also, lawmaker Yagya Bahadur Thapa stressed the need for recognising professional efficiency and delivery of private sector.
President of the Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industries Pashupati Murarka said private sector was ready to face any challenge and on part of the government, it should ensure security of their investment.
The project had begun in 2012 AD with 80 percent of financial assistance from China International Water and Electric Corporation and 20 percent from the project.
Investment for the project had increased to Rs 7 billion from initial Rs 5.28 billion due to various factors including frequent agitations including Madhes protest and border blockade during the construction period, said the project chairman Bijaya Babu Malla.

- Banke, 30 Dec.
An unidentified group has attacked Santosh Budhathoki, the central member of Youth Association Nepal, a youth wing of the CPN (UML), leaving him seriously injured. The incident took place last night, according to the Area Police Office, Kohalpur.
He was rushed to Lucknow India for advanced medical treatment after preliminary treatment at the local Kohalpur Medical College. Police said that they are hunting for assailants.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari has wished prosperity, good health, peace, happiness and longevity to all Nepalis including from the Tamu community living home and abroad on the occasion of the Tamu Lhosar today.

- Nepalgunj,30 Dec .
Sacks of rice grains donated by the Japanese government four years ago remain unused and neglected in the Nepal Food Corporation (NFC) Zonal Office's warehouse in Nepalgunj.
Office Chief, Moti Raj Gyawali, confirmed the stockpile of 10,660 sacks of rice grains received four years ago under Japanese grant.
"Each sack contains 30 kilos of rice," Gyawali confided, and adding further, "There has not been any decision from the centre on what to do with the rice in the godown, so we are unable to use it."
The Corporation has been purchasing paddy. It does not have enough space to store the paddies purchased from farmers while at the same time, a huge stock of rice grains continues to remain unused in its godown.
